Tulian Trek in Kashmir Itinerary

Day 1: The Steep Climb to Tulian Valley

Your trek starts with a short 20-minute drive from Pahalgam to the trailhead. From here, prepare for a tough day!

  • Trek: 9 km | Duration: Approx. 8 hours
  • The path is a steep, continuous climb, gaining 1300m in altitude.
  • You'll hike up from the starting altitude of 2100m to our beautiful high-altitude camp in Tulian Valley (3400m).
  • It's a challenging start, but you'll feel completely immersed in the mountains as you settle into your camp for the night.
Day 2: Lake Day – Tulian Lake Exploration

Today is the highly anticipated 'Lake Day'—the climax of your trek!

  • Trek: 4 km (round trip) | Duration: Approx. 6 hours
  • Start early with a hearty breakfast before ascending 2 km to the lake.
  • Get ready to see the gorgeous Tulian Lake! It looks like a piece of heaven, with turquoise waters set against a backdrop of sparkling mountains.
  • You'll notice its unique figure-eight shape. Take your time walking along its banks and enjoying the peace.
  • We'll set up a delicious lunch right by the lakeside!
  • After soaking in the beauty, you'll hike back down to the Tulian Valley campsite to spend the night.
Day 3: Descent Back to Pahalgam

It's time to head home, carrying incredible memories with you!

  • Trek: 8 km | Duration: Approx. 6 hours
  • Today is all about going downhill. You'll retrace your steps from Tulian Valley, losing 1300m in altitude.
  • Enjoy the views one last time as you make the final descent back to Pahalgam, where your trek officially ends.

Additional Services:

  • Meal plan: In every meal plan, we try to provide different varieties, trying not to repeat the dishes, particularly at dinner and lunch. Here is the list of dishes and items from which we serve the clients.
  • Breakfast: eggs, paratha, chana, poha, dalia, upma, cornflakes, bread toast, butter, jam, roti, coffee, tea, kehwa, etc.
  • Lunch and dinner: we make a variety of dishes and try to serve the varied dishes. On all trek days, there will be different dishes served. We try not to repeat our dishes unless the clients say otherwise.
  • We serve veg dishes like veg biryani, veg pulaw, muttar paneer, palak paneer, aloo gobi, rajma chawal, rajma kadhai, mix veg, chana masala, kadhi chawal, dal makhni, bhindi masala, dal fry, veg korma, Kashmiri nadru, Kashmiri haakh, aloo matar, bhaingan ka bharta, dam aloo, andaburji, etc. We have both roti and rice available for dinner and lunch. We serve them with different pickles and salad.
  • For evening snacks we have tea, pakoda, soup, noodles, maggie, veg rolls, biscuits, etc.
  • For dessert we serve gulab jamun, phirni, halwa, custard, sewaya, fruit chaat, fruit cake, almond cake, etc.

The Tulian Lake Trek is short but intense, rated as Difficult-Moderate. It involves significant and steep altitude gain right from the start, demanding preparation to ensure you enjoy every moment.

Trek Difficulty & Preparation

Trek Fitness Level: You need a fair to good level of fitness for this journey. The steep ascent on Day 1 will test your endurance! We strongly recommend training focus on cardio and strength well in advance.

  • Cardio Goal: To build the necessary stamina, aim to comfortably walk or run 5 kilometers in under 30 minutes. Regular jogging and running are essential to prepare for the continuous climbing.
  • Strength Training: Focus on strengthening your lower body and core. Exercises like squats, lunges, and planks will help stabilize your knees and ankles and manage the strain of the steep ascent and descent.

Mental Fitness: Practice meditation and yoga to improve breath regulation. This is very helpful when trekking at high altitudes with lower oxygen levels.

Recommended Items

Clothing: Thermal base layers, fleece or down mid-layer, waterproof and windproof jacket/pants, trekking pants, insulated jacket, gloves, woolen cap.

Footwear: Sturdy, waterproof trekking boots with ankle support (essential for stability) and comfortable camp shoes.

Gear: 50-60L backpack with rain cover, sleeping bag (rated for cold temperatures), trekking poles (highly recommended for the steep ascent/descent), headlamp with extra batteries.

Protection: High SPF sunscreen and lip balm, UV-protecting sunglasses, and a poncho or raincoat.

Essentials: Personal first-aid kit (including blister care and personal medication), water bottles/hydration pack, ID, and cash.
