Bodpathri lake Trek In Kashmir 5 Nights 6 Days

Bodpathri Lake Trek in Kashmir Package Overview

Welcome to the Bodpathri Lakes Trek, one of Kashmir's most spectacular meadow and alpine lake adventures!

This journey is absolutely unique. We believe the vast, pristine meadows you'll find here are unparalleled—so huge and untouched that they even surpass the famous grasslands of the Kashmir Great Lakes Trek!

A Newly Opened Paradise

The Bodpathri Trek lies within Kashmir's Pir Panjal Range. For many years, this entire area was restricted under army surveillance. But now, this incredible trail has been opened up for trekkers, and we are proud to be one of the first to take you there.

The trek begins at the beautifully offbeat destination of Doodhpathri.

What Makes This Trek Special:

  • Meadows That Never End: Imagine walking across a lush green carpet that stretches as far as you can see, merging seamlessly with the towering mountains. This trek is a traverse across these magnificent grasslands, leaving you completely mesmerized by their serenity.
  • Six Stunning Alpine Lakes: Over six days, you'll encounter an abundance of fresh, clear alpine lakes. Be prepared to be enchanted by the beauty of Bodsar, Pamsar, and the stunning Damamsar Lake.
  • Panoramic Mountain Views: You'll be trekking right under the towering giants of the Pir Panjal Range, with wide-open views of magnificent peaks like Sunset Peak and Trattakoti Peak.
  • Pure Tranquility: This trail is still wonderfully offbeat. You will rarely see crowds, which is a rare treat compared to the busy trails in Uttarakhand and other parts of Kashmir. This untouched peace is what makes the Bodpathri trek truly special.
  • Rated as an Easy to Moderate trek, it promises six days of breathtaking natural beauty, passing through forest cover, lush grass, and clear alpine waters.

Day 2: From Doodhpathri to Diskal Meadow

Trek: 5 km | Duration: Approx. 4 hours

Altitude Gain: 2700m to 3400m

  • The first trekking day starts easy. You'll cross the Doodhganga river and begin a mild, steady ascent through a forest cover that lasts about 2−3 hours.
  • Once you climb above the treeline, you'll reach the vast Diskal meadow—the beginning of the sprawling grasslands that define this trek.
  • You'll pass a small shepherd settlement, climb a short ridge to see the huge Ashtaar Valley spread out before you, and then descend through a boulder section to your riverside campsite.
Day 3: Meadow Walk to Asthaar Valley (Gurwansar)

Trek: 6 km | Duration: Approx. 4 hours

Altitude Gain: 3400m to 3500m

  • Another easy day of trekking with gradual ups and downs.
  • You'll navigate some short boulder patches and cross a few river streams.

The highlight is a 2 km walk across a wide, flat meadow before you cross one last stream to arrive at your campsite at Gurwansar in Asthaar Valley.

Day 4: Climbing to Pamsar Lake

Trek: 7 km | Duration: Approx. 6 hours

Altitude Gain: 3500m to 3810m

  • The difficulty increases to moderate-difficult today. It's a longer day focused on ridges and valleys.
  • You'll climb a ridge, descend, walk along a ledge, and then make an ascent of about 1 km to reach the stunning, vast Pamsar Lake.

Spend time exploring the lake's banks before navigating more ascents, descents, and boulder sections to reach your next camp at Duriem.

Day 5: Lake Exploration Day – The Toughest Challenge

Trek: 11 km | Duration: Approx. 8 hours

Altitude Gain: 3850m to 3820m (via a high point of 3962m)

  • The trail involves a steep, challenging ascent through a boulder patch.
  • Once on the ridge, you will be rewarded with views of three more gorgeous glacier-fed lakes: Damamsar Lake, Navkansar and Navkansar

The day ends with a long descent to your campsite at Gadtar.

Day 6: Final Descent through Tosamaidan

Trek: 11 km | Duration: Approx. 5 hours

Bodpathri Lake Trek in Kashmir Preparing for Your Journey

The Bodpathri Lake Trek is rated moderate to difficult, largely due to its high altitude, remote setting, and multiple lake crossings over rugged terrain. While the trail is less commercialized, its pristine beauty, dotted with alpine lakes and surrounded by towering peaks, makes it a rewarding challenge.

Trek Preparation

To successfully complete the Bodpathri trek, you'll need a strong fitness base, with both endurance and strength components.

Cardio Goal

  • Train to walk/jog 5–7 km in 35–40 minutes comfortably.
  • Prioritize interval running, stair climbing, and long walks with a loaded backpack to simulate trekking conditions.

Strength Training

  • Focus on building lower-body and core strength:
  • Squats, lunges, calf raises, planks, and step-ups with weight.
  • Strengthen knees and ankles to reduce injury risk on uneven terrain.

Acclimatization Readiness

  • If possible, plan a few days in higher-altitude areas (e.g., Gulmarg or Sonamarg) before starting the trek.

Learn controlled breathing techniques, yoga, or meditation for better oxygen regulation.
